The Coastal/Yachtmaster Theory Course requires pre-course knowledge to Day Skipper Theory level. It brings an understanding of secondary ports, a greater knowledge of tidal streams & heights, weather, safety and position fixing in much greater detail.

The Coastal/Yachtmaster Theory Course is the level required for RYA Coastal Yachtmaster practical, RYA Yachtmaster Offshore practical certificates and is a pre-course requirement for the RYA Yachtmaster Ocean Theory course.

The course takes approximately 40-50 hours with a long assessment of 3 parts (IRPCS 1.5 hours, Chartwork 2 hours and Passage Making 3.5 hours). These can be taken in one sitting or as 3 separate papers.

Invigilated Assessments

These can be offered for free to anyone who books an online course with us and who requires an invigilated assessment for a commercial endorsement or as a Master 200 prerequisite. We can also arrange invigilated assessments at our sites around the country, or elsewhere in the world, at a cost.

Why Choose an Interactive Course?

The course is made up of detailed lessons, most of which are animated for easy learning. Each lesson is followed by a set of questions which can be answered online. Once an answer is submitted, the feedback is instant in the form of a detailed answer page. Some will be forwarded to your instructor who will provide personal feedback and help where required.

You can book your course online and be working straight away on the sections where the RYA pack is not needed. Your RYA pack, containing your charts, RYA almanac, RYA course notes and course plotter, will be posted the same day. The course is professionally written in association with Navathome by fully qualified instructor with a background in e-learning.
