For Powerboats

(Sportboat’s & RIB’s etc, open boats with no accommodation)

Powerboat Level 2

A two-day course, partly theoretical but mostly practical. Suitable for people with a small amount of boat driving experience. Regarded by many as the basic boat driving qualification. Providing instruction in boat handling, basic rules of the road, & chart work.

Advanced Powerboat

A two-day course. Part practical, part theory, suitable only for those who have a Level 2 cert or equivalent plus Yachtmaster theory or equivalent. High speed boat handling & coastal navigation, day & night pilotage with GPS. Involves a late night at sea (especially in June!) Strict experience requirements for entry level including First Aid and VHF Radio certificates. This is a 2 day training course which gives you an RYA course completion certificate, but there is also a Certificate of Competence for which you need to do an exam with an external RYA examiner. That certificate can be commercially endorsed. We can arrange an exam for you if that is what you need.

Instructors Courses

3-day course, involves both training and assessment, in the classroom and afloat. Candidates must prepare thoroughly before starting these courses and be prepared to teach any part of the syllabus on demand. This allows teaching up to Level 2 only. Advanced Instructors require a further 2-day instructor assessment.
